In Australia, there are over 650,000 registered RVs. On average, these RVs are being used for only four to six weeks of the year. Caravans are expensive items and they often sit around more than they’re used.
Entrepreneur Justin Hales spotted the number of caravans sitting idle in his neighbourhood driveways and realised the untapped potential across Australia. He had the business idea: why not link these caravan and motorhome owners to holidaymakers in a similar way to Airbnb? Fast-forward four years and his company, Camplify.com.au is now the largest peer-to-peer RV sharing community in Australia and the UK.
With more than 3,500 RVs listed on its platform, Camplify has helped thousands of RV owners join the share economy and boost their income through hiring their underutilised caravans, campervans, motorhomes and camper trailers. Owners often put this money towards their maintenance costs, future adventures or even another vehicle!
Wondering how much extra money your RV may be able to bring you each year? Camplify has provided a breakdown of average annual hire income figures:
|VEHICLE TYPE||AVERAGE ANNUAL HIRE INCOME VIA CAMPLIFY|
|Motorhomes||$20,000 – $35,000|
|Caravans||$10,000 – $25,000|
|Campervans||$10,000 – $15,000|
|Camper Trailers||$10,000 – $15,000|
With Justin’s childhood love of caravanning a key motivator, Camplify is thrilled to have been able to send over 10,000 people on caravanning holidays, who otherwise wouldn’t have access to this type of experience.
